Report card In for GUHS
The Scotsman - Fri 15 Dec 2006 Statistics for all secondaries in Scotland were released yesterday on the Scottish Schools Online website. It gives a detailed, school-by-school breakdown of exam results, as well as other information such as unauthorised absence rates and how many pupils go on to college or university. But because the Executive refuses to publish school league tables as is done south of the Border, The Scotsman has processed the figures to produce its own list of the country's best-performing state schools. The small Glen Urquhart High School in the Highlands registered the biggest improvement in Higher results - with the percentage of fifth-year pupils passing three or more Highers up from 41 per cent to 53 per cent - to come second overall behind Jordanhill. Across the country, the proportion of fifth-year pupils gaining three or more Highers fell from 23 per cent to 21 per cent. "SCIS research shows parents are more interested in knowing their child's potential will be realised through high standards of teaching, their child's individual needs will be met through good pupil-teacher ratios and the school will set clear values."
